An up-and-coming exotic destination, Sri Lanka with eight monuments classified as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, ranging from ancient cities ruins to incredibly well-kept Buddhist temples, but also with endless golden sandy beaches, verdant valleys, the two big national parks, as well as the genial people; this is simply a dream journey.

A destination you shouldn’t fail to explore during your journey to Sri Lanka is a guided tour of the Sigiriya Fortress near the city of Habarana. It is also known as «Lion Rock» due to the massive lion that used to guard the entrance of an imposing citadel, its major sight being the frescoes of buxom, bear-chested ladies, «the Heavenly Maidens of Sigiriya», situated in a protected niche of the rock. These impressive frescoes are painted with earth pigments on lime mortar.

1st Day

Departure from Greece – Sri Lanka

Departure from Greece and flight (via a stopover), with final destination Colombo, Sri Lanka.

2nd Day

Arrival in Colombo – Visit to Pinauela elephant shelter – Habarana

Arrival at Colombo Airport, the largest city and types of capital, as the actual capital Sri-Jayawardenepura is within walking distance. It houses only the Parliament and a few government buildings, as most are located in Colombo around the Presidential Palace. A rising exotic destination in the south of India, intensely mysterious and with a special history, already known for the endless slopes with tea & spice plantations, as well as precious and semi-precious stones. The former Ceylon, with its fascinating hinterland, medieval capitals, tropical vegetation, impressive waterfalls, lush valleys and endless golden beaches, as well as the most friendly people, compose a journey that is simply dreamy! A unique mixture of contradictions, a different and enchanting world, which arouses special interest even for the most demanding traveler. Welcome to the airport and transfer to Habarana, on the way visit the famous Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, which hosts, cares for and trains about 60 of these imposing animals. Arrival and installation at the hotel. If time permits, tour the picturesque villages of the area. Dinner & overnight in Habarana.

3rd Day

Habarana: Tour of Sigiriya Fortress & The ancient ruins of Polonnaruwa

Breakfast at the hotel. Climb the rock of Sigiriya at a height of 200 m., Also known as the «Fortress of the Lion», due to the huge lion, which guarded the entrance of a beautiful citadel. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was built by King Kashyapa (477 - 495 AD). It was the stronghold of a fortified city of 70 hectares with a moat, bastion, water gardens, royal pool, but also the biggest attraction of what are the frescoes with topless girls, «Virgins of Sigiriya», located in a sheltered recess of the rock. access from a spiral staircase. These impressive frescoes are painted with earthy pigments on plaster. Later, a visit to the medieval capital Polonnaruwa, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Admire the ruins of the Palace, the Gal Viharaya (where 4 magnificent statues carved into the rock, representing the Buddha standing, sitting and lying down), the auditorium, the royal bath, the statue of King Parakramabahu, and Lake Parakrama built by King Parakramabahu. Also, famous places of worship such as the temple of Shiva, the Lankathilake, the Watadage, the Galpotha, the Kiri Vehera and the Temple where the relic of the Buddha's tooth was kept. 4th Day

Habarana – Dambulla: Temple tour – Matale plantations – Kandy: Tour

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Kandy with a guided tour of the Temple complex of Dambulla, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is located in 5 caves and covers an area of over 2.000 sq.m. The temples are decorated with magnificent murals as well as more of 150 Buddha statues, the largest of which is 15 meters high. The route continues with a visit to the plantations of Matale, where we will see exotic varieties of plants and spices. Arrival in Kandy, built on the shores of an artificial lake built by the last king, Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1798 and surrounded by the Mahaweli River. Guided tour of the holy Temple of the city, where the relic of the «Sacred Tooth» of the Buddha is kept. In the evening enjoy an impressive traditional dance-theatrical performance. Dinner & overnight at Kandy.

5th Day

Kandy – Peradeniya Botanic gardens (by coach / optional by train) – Nuwara Eliya: Tour

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for the hinterland and the lush Nuwara Eliya valley, with a guided tour of the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, which cover an area of 147 hectares with stunning varieties of trees, plants and flowers. We continue crossing green valleys with endless tea plantations and picturesque villages that stretch between the hills. Arrival at Nuwara Eliya, the country's most popular mountain cosmopolitan resort, at an altitude of 6.500 feet, with its refreshing climate and the best tea in the world. Guided tour of a tea processing and harvesting factory. Dinner & overnight at Nuwara Eliya.

6th Day

Nuwara Eliya – Ella Rawana waterfall – Yala Tissamaharama: Safari in the National Park

Breakfast at the hotel. A short visit to the spectacular Rawana Ella waterfall with the special natural beauty and the mythical character inherited from the Indian epic “Ramayana”. The route continues to Tissamaharama, which is the main gateway to Yala National Park, the largest in Sri Lanka. It's time for an unforgettable jeep safari! Leopards, elephants, crocodiles, bears, deer, colorful exotic birds etc. everything is gathered here, in the most impressive National Park of the country. Dinner & overnight at Tissamaharama.

7th Day

Yala Tissamaharama – Galle: Tour

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Galle, the most well-preserved Dutch colony in Southeast Asia. Rich in history, it has been declared a World Heritage colony. It is still fortified with the imposing Dutch fortress and remains a very picturesque port, one of the largest in the country. This is followed by a tour of the most important sights, such as the Dutch Historical Museum, the National Maritime Museum, the Protestant Grand Church “Groote Kerk” of the Methodists, as well as the famous Cricket Stadium where the world championship of the same name is held in recent years. The city is also known for its exquisite hand-woven lace and beautiful ebony (tropical wood) wood carvings, which are widely available in the market. Dinner & overnight in Galle. Alternatively (after the route and the tour to Galle), final destination Colombo, with tour and overnight in the capital.

8th Day

Galle – Colombo: City tour – Return from Sri Lanka

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Colombo and tour the most important sights of the city. Among them, the Old Parliament, the City Hall and the Independence Square stand out. If time allows, a visit to the National or the Dutch Museum and a short stop for shopping in the Shopping Center of the capital. Later, transfer to the airport for the return flight (via a stopover).

9th Day

Sri Lanka – Arrival in Greece
