Kos, is the third largest island after Rhodes and Karpathos. Since prehistoric times, it has been a great naval station as it connected the Black Sea with North Africa, following the coastlines of Asia Minor and the Aegean islands. Kos has over the years become a very interesting tourist destination. Beyond its beautiful beaches and its excellent infrastructure, the island also has an enormous cultural heritage from Antiquity to Byzantine times and from the era of the Knights to the present day. According to Roman Galen, Kos has been described as “the island with the most temperate climate in the world”. In the island except from the deified for his contribution to his fellow man, Asclepius, Hippocrates developed the medical science as another father of medicine. It is no coincidence that the two founders of scientists developed their medical science in Kos. The very nature of Kos, on land and sea, as well as its thermal waters, speak for themselves. Access to the island is via ferry lines from the port of Piraeus and the journey takes about 15 hours. Also, the island also has airports, making access very easy as from Athens airport Kos is only 55 minutes by plane.
