Winter Ski in Kalavryta

KALAVRYTA

Kalavryta is a settlement in the prefecture of Achaia. Situated in an altitude of 750 meters it’s not only an ideal winter destination. For ski lovers is a nearby winter excursion, just 77 km from Patra and 142 km from Athens. This winter destination combine good and modern infrastructure with attractive prices as well as easy access from Athens. It is a must destination for friends of winter tourism as it is one of the largest ski resorts in the Balkans. Alternatively, the area is ideal for other activities like hiking in the Vouraikos gorge, excursions to nearby villages and canoe or rafting on the river Ladon. Moreover, Kalavryta have historical and religious value. Do not miss to visit the Site of Execution and the Museum of the Kalavrytan Holocaust, where on December 13, 1943 were taken all men aged 14 and over for execution by the Germans. Impressive is the Great Cave Monastery that dominates, 10 km from the city of Kalavryta, and is built into a cliff while underneath lies the valley of Vouraikos. Luxury hotels with excellent spa and indoor pools, bars, and dining at the traditional Greek taverns give the rhythm to the after ski life.

SCHEDULE

1st Day

ATHENS – KALAVRYTA

Meeting in the airport and departure from Athens to Kalavryta, with stops for coffee and rest at the Isthmus of Corinth, arrival at the hotel. After arriving in Kalavryta and our hotel, the tour guide will give you useful information about the village. Free time at your disposal for a first walk in the historical center of Kalavryta. Overnight.

2nd Day

KALAVRYTA

After breakfast, departure for the ski resort. Then we enjoy coffee, tea and snacks at the café-restaurant of the resort. Afterwards we leave for the the Cave of the Lakes. Lunch in one of the many restaurants in the village of Kalavryta. Leisure for shopping in the center of Kalavryta. Overnight at the hotel.

3rd Day

KALAVRYTA

After breakfast, departure fo the ski resort. In this day’s program we have an excursion to the Holy Monastery of the Great Cave. Lunch in one of the many restaurants in the village of Kalavryta. Leisure for shopping in the center of Kalavryta. Overnight at the hotel.

4th Day

KALAVRYTA

After breakfast, departure for the ski resort. Afterwards we drive to the famous Odontotos rack railway, where we will descend from the top of the mountain to the village Diakofto, which is near the sea. Lunch in a restaurant at the village of Diakofto. Return by bus to Kalavryta. Leisure. Overnight at the hotel.

5th Day

KALAVRYTA

After our delicious breakfast, departure for the ski resort. Afterwards we will visit the Kalavryta Holocaust Museum and the monument, where the infamous execution of village residents by the Germans, took place in December 1943. Lunch in one of the many restaurants of the village of Kalavryta. Leisure for shopping in the center of Kalavryta. In the evening, acquaintance with traditional tastes (Kalavryta is famous for them), and according to the number of participants, optional organization of a Greek special night with a traditional dance group. Overnight at the hotel.

6th Day

KALAVRYTA

After a tasty breakfast, departure for the ski resort. We will visit the village of Planitero, where the springs of Aoranios river (spouting through the earth) are found with the trouts. There we will have a lunch at a local tavern in the village. Later we will visit the Arbor of Pausanias, which Pausanias mentioned in his memoirs, and is considered to be the oldest arbor in the world over 3000 years. Return to Kalavryta. Overnight at the hotel.

7th Day

KALAVRYTA – ATHENS

After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, we depart and return to Athens and airport Eleftherios Venizelos.
