It was built in 362 by the Thessalonian brothers, Symeon and Theodoros who each saw separately an apparition with the order to go to Achaia and find the holy image of the Virgin Mary made of mastic and wax, made by the Evangelist Luke. The walls of the church in the monastery are covered with frescoes from 1653. Manuscript Gospels and vestments are also kept there.
