BUDAPEST

Budapest is the capital of Hungary and the seat of the county of Pest. It has about 1.7 million inhabitants. Budapest became a single city occupying both banks of the Danube River, merging on November 17, 1873 in Buda, Óbuda and Pest. It is the seventh largest city in the European Union (excluding the suburbs and the metropolitan area of the cities in general).

SCHEDULE

1st Day

ATHENS – BUDAPEST – CITY TOUR

Meeting at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport and flight to the beautiful city of Budapest. Arrival in the capital of Magyar, and we begin our tour of Pest, with the great Heroes square, and the impressive statue of Archangel Gabriel, an impressive construction, where the statues of the kings of the country are «hosted». Next you will visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the largest church in Hungary. You will be impressed by the interior decoration as well as the chapel of the temple, where the right hand of the Saint is being preserved. You will then head along the Danube river where you will admire the beautiful bridges and reach the Buddha side. You will admire the Castle, the Fisherman's Tower and the Historical Matthias Church, which dominates the Northern part of the Castle district. Next stop is Gellert Hill and the «Citadella» Acropolis with the Statue of Liberty and the breathtaking view of Buddha & Pest. Transportation and accommodation to our hotel. For the evening we recommend a cruise on the Danube river.
2nd Day

BUDAPEST – INTERNAL PARLIAMENT TOUR – COVERED MARKET – VACI UTCA

Breakfast and next follows a guided tour (inside) of Parliament, to get acquainted with our Greek-speaking guide its rich interior decoration, the Holy Crown, Hungary's Scepter, St. Stephen’s Sword and the Golden Apple of Power. Then we will visit the beautiful closed market. Here you will have the opportunity to buy the famous Hungarian salami, the local Unicum and Palinka drinks, as well as their famous wines. We continue on to the highlight of Christmas Budapest, Vorosmarty Square in the heart of the city at the end of Váci utca. A Christmas market set up there, with 122 stalls with handmade products and food. There you will have a culinary trip to all the traditional Hungarian flavors. It's worth trying goulash soup inside bread, stuffed cabbage, strudel, grilled sausages, meats & Christmas cookies. Distinguished are the kürtös kalác, which are cylindrical-leaf sweet, originating in Transylvania. They are served with various coatings, such as sugar, nuts, coconut and chocolate. Rest of the day free at your disposal.
3rd Day

BUDAPEST (OPTIONAL EXCURSION TO VIENNA)

Breakfast. Departure for our optional excursion to Vienna (60 € adults / 30 € children up to 12 years), the beautiful Austrian capital. On arrival, a guided tour of the city follows, where we will cross the famous avenue, with its imposing 19th century mansions, the Opera House, the Natural History and Art History Museums, the Parliament, the Town Hall, the University and Belvedere and the famous Schonbrunn Palace, Sissy's favorite palace, with its lovely gardens. We will then end up in the center of the city, where the metropolitan church of Vienna St. Stefan is located, a 12th century temple in a mixed romantic and Gothic style, stands as the central attraction of the city with its main feature, its colorful, mosaic-style roof. We will then walk to the historic quarter of the Greek community, where the cathedral of the Holy Trinity of the 18th century is located in Byzantine style, right next is the church of St. George and the home of the ethnic martyr and forerunner of the Greek Revolution Rigas Feraios. Free time in the city center to enjoy your coffee at the famous Viennese pastry shops, taste authentic schnitzel, stroll the pedestrian streets of the shops and the big Christmas market in front of the imposing Town Hall. In the afternoon we return to Budapest. On the night of Christmas Eve, we suggest you follow us to the renowned Borkatakomba restaurant and spend a beautiful night with gypsy violins, local cuisine & Taurus blood!
4th Day

BUDAPEST – DANUBE VILLAGES – ROYAL MEAL

Breakfast. Departure for the beautiful route to the Danube Turn. First stop is the village of artists, St. Andrew, with its picturesque streets and beautiful tourist shops, the area is renowned for its fine wines. We continue on to Visegrad, the historic landmark of the magnificent Danube Turn. From its once magnificent and renowned royal palace in Europe, only a few remains are preserved, the official Renaissance courtyard being restored on the basis of old designs. Next we will enjoy our festive meal as “Kings” at the renaissance restaurant named «Renaissance». Then follows a walk in the first capital of Hungary, Esztergom. We will cross the bridge that connects the two banks of the Danube river, Hungary and Slovakia to cross into the city Sturovo of Slovakia, where we will enjoy the view of the Danube and we will be impressed by St. Stephen's hill been illuminated on the opposite hill of Hungary. Return to Budapest in the afternoon.
5th Day

BUDAPEST – ATHENS

Breakfast. Free day to enjoy the wonderful capital of Hungary, following the valuable advice of your tour guide. Transfer to the airport and return flight to Athens. The rich pictures of beautiful Budapest will accompany your return trip. You will surely find many reasons to visit Central Europe again!
