Sounion is a rocky cape, the southernmost point of Attica. It rises almost vertically from the sea to a great height, forming at its foot a small cove, which is separated from another islet by an isthmus. Sounion is known for its significant geographical location. It was the first spot that someone observed sailing from the Cyclades or Asia Minor towards Piraeus. The municipality took its name from the «Sounion Temple» and «Sounion End», which are mentioned by Homer in the Odyssey. In recent years, the wider region due to its environmental value was declared a national park.

Drive along the coastal road, passing the wonderful beaches of Glyfada, Vouliagmeni & Varkiza to the most Southern point of Attica, Cape Sounion, where the white marble pillars of the Temple of Poseidon stand.

On the way, you have a splendid view of the Saronic Gulf and the little islands offshore.

After visiting the Temple of Poseidon, you have time to walk at leisure on the rocky promontory of Sounion.
