Malta

Malta, the whole Mediterranean on one island. Despite its small size it has a huge history unfolding in the depths of the centuries. This islands’ nation has a peculiar character that impresses from the prehistoric temples and Baroque architecture of the capital Valletta, to the cuisine and celebrations, this nation emits a unique charm. Take a stroll through the famous Baraka Gardens, within the imposing walls of the capital, where you will enjoy a unique view of the city and its harbor. The Casa Rocca Piccola Palace is another of Valletta’s most famous attractions. The city of Rabat in the west stands out for the houses with the decorative facades, which protect the statues of the saints in the corners. Also worth visiting is St. Paul’s Church, the city of Vittoriosa (Birgu), the first place of the Knights of Malta, with the beautiful buildings, the paved streets and its interesting naval museum.

1st Day

Athens – Malta

Meeting at the airport and flight with Aegean Airlines. Arrival at Malta airport and immediate transfer to the hotel. Delivery of rooms and free time. In the evening we will be accompanied by our leader in the area of our hotel and you will have the opportunity to have dinner or a drink in the shops of the area.

2nd Day

Malta – Valetta Tour

Breakfast and then we will head with the help of the local tour guide for the guided tour to the famous capital of the order of the Knights of St. John, Valletta. The tour is done on foot, because the traffic of cars is prohibited in the Old Town section. It is a unique castle-city with special historical importance and boundless beauty. We will walk through the narrow picturesque streets and enjoy the elements of another era. We will admire the Barakka Gardens, from where we will see the panoramic view of Malta's two natural harbors and the three historic cities associated with the two great sieges of 1565 and 1942. Also the majestic St. John's Cathedral, the Grandmaster's Palace and the wonderful buildings with wooden balconies. Free time. Optionally you can visit Casa Rocca Piccola, a 16th century palace in the heart of Valletta that reminds us of what life was like for the Knights in the Middle Ages. Next, we transfer to the hotel and have free time.

3rd Day

Malta – Birgu – Marsaxlokk – Saint Paul's Catacombs – Rabat – Mdina – Mosta

After breakfast, we will begin our panoramic tour around Valletta's fortifications. You will have the opportunity to admire the impressive walls that surround it and its geographical location. Then we will proceed to the medieval fortified town of Birgu, where we will have the opportunity to see the 16th century church of Saint Lawrence, but also many houses that remain from the time of the Knights of St. John. Then we will visit Marsaxlokk, Malta's largest fishing village. Here, you can enjoy your free time to wander around the market, have meal, drink your coffee or just relax and watch the colorful fishing boats. We will then ascend the hill of Rabat where we will be guided to the Saint Paul catacombs (entrance included), which are an extensive system of underground arcades and tombs dating between the 3rd and 8th centuries AD. We will then proceed to Rabat and around the perimeter of Mdina which was once the capital of Malta. Then, we will board our bus and proceed through an outdoor route we will end up to the village of Mosta, located in the center of the island and known for the church with the third largest self-supporting dome in Europe (entrance included).

4th Day

Malta (free day) – Optional Excursion to Gozo

After breakfast, free day. Today we recommend a full-day excursion to the enchanting island of Gozo. To reach the second largest island of the Maltese archipelago, we transfer to the ferry and board the ferry boat. The extraordinary beauty of the landscape, the wonderful houses and farmhouses, the alternation of images that you will come across will surely convince you how much your visit to the island of Gozo was worth it. We will visit Ggantija, with the unique finds from the Neolithic era, the capital of Gozo Victoria, with the famous castle and the old town. Next we will head to the traditional village of Fontana, where you can buy traditional products and finally the picturesque fishing village of Xlendi, where you can optionally have meal. Return to the hotel. Overnight.

5th Day

Malta (free day) – Athens

Breakfast, free day and in the afternoon transfer to the airport for the return flight to Athens.
