Samos stands out from the other Aegean islands for its green landscape, many places of archaeological and cultural interest and its local traditions. Its two large mountains namely, Kerkis and Abelos, are referred to as the highest mountains of the Aegean. A perfect place for excursions is to visit the gorges, with running waters, its torrents as well as its caves. Vathi and Kokkari are the unrivaled protagonists of the northern coast. Marathokampos and Karlovassi have many visitors. Psili Ammos is one of the most organized beaches of the island, with shallow waters, making it ideal for children to swim and play in. Samos with its many faces, is a destination with a special character known for its wine. Kokkari, the third largest tourist resort in Samos, is a “Cycladic” fishing village with crystal blue waters. The Eupaline Mines, the eighth miracle of antiquity as it has often been characterized, is dug in the depths of Mount Kastro or Kastri and was used as the city’s aqueduct.
