Madrid may not be one of the cities you will fall in love with from the first moment, but it will not take long before it wins your heart when you take the time to wander around its neighborhoods, visit its museums, hang around its bars or just sunbathe in Plaza Mayor. One of the Spanish capital’s strong cards are its rhythms and amazing food. The variety of architectural styles will also impress you: the buildings of the Habsburg era (around the Plaza Mayor and Plaza de la Villa) are intertwined with the baroque Bourbon era and their neoclassical lines of the 18th century. A multifaced city, reflecting to all tastes: for expensive shopping head to the prestigious Salamanca neighborhood, while for street fashion and alternative designers on the streets of Hortaleza and Fuencarral. On Sunday, on the other hand, street shopping enthusiasts crowd into El Rastro, the grand bargain on the streets of the bohemian district of Lavapies. And on the other hand, Velasquez, El Greco, Goya, Bos, Picasso, Dali and Miro: a walk to the «mile of the museums» is never enough to fill them, with queues for the coveted ticket for El Greco’s works , the famous «Guernica» of Picasso and not only are endless. Everything here is about food and fun – the cafes on the squares and the big sidewalks are full all day. When the Spanish say «go for tapas», they mean a route from one tapas bar to another for a glass of wine and their specialties, with most concentrating on the Plaza de Santa Ana and the La Latina area. This can take hours and the wines –and the appetizers respectively– reach ten! If you are now interested in nightlife, the bars of the once degraded neighborhood of Chueca, which has evolved into a gay barrio and a center of evening entertainment, is the place to be.

1
1st Day
Athens – Madrid (guided tour)
Flight from Athens to Madrid. Arrival and directly departure for a first acquaintance with the city through a panoramic ride with our bus. With photo stops at places such as Plaza Castilla with its twin curved towers (Puerta de Europa), Madrid's bullring (Plaza de Toros Las Ventas) the largest in the country, as well as a walk through the largest natural lung in the center of city the Retiro Park, where we will see the artificial lake. Arrival and check-in at the hotel, little time to rest and we start for a walk in the historic center of Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Mercado de San Miguel, and free time for dinner.

2nd Day
Madrid (guided tour)
After breakfast at the hotel, departure on foot for the Prado Museum. We will pass through Plaza Colon, Paseo de Recoletos, and Plaza de Cibeles with the Bank of Spain and City Hall and through Paseo del Prado to arrive at the museum. The Prado Museum is one of the most important art galleries in the world with an abundance of famous works that we would need whole days to be able to see them, in the 1 hour and 35 minutes we are given to do our scheduled tour with an official guide we will mainly enjoy from the Spanish School works by El Greco, Velazquez and Goya as well as some paintings of the Venetian School such as Tintoretto or the Flemish School such as Rubens. Also here we will have an hour free so you can see other works or visit the museum shop. Next we will walk through the Madrid of the Bourbons with its large open spaces, i.e. squares, boulevards, etc. and specifically from the Prado Avenue, also known as the Avenue of Art, and the Vertical Garden of the Caixa Forum in Habsburg’s Madrid with its many narrow streets, and we will pass the Barrio de las Letras Neighborhood of Letters. From there on you will be free to “get lost” in these streets, try a chocolate con churros at the San Ginés Chocolatier or find yourself on Cava Baja street in the La Latina neighborhood with its many Tapas Bars. For later in the afternoon, we suggest you visit the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, specifically the 2nd floor where the permanent exhibition is located. There we will have the opportunity to admire some of the most famous works of Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí and of course the masterpiece of world art Pablo Picasso's Guernica as well as other well-known works of the artist.

3rd Day
Madrid – Toledo (guided tour)
After breakfast at the hotel, departure for Toledo, the old capital of Spain. Arriving first, we will take a panoramic bus tour and stop at a vantage point to take pictures and Toledo will be presented to us like a bride showing off her wedding dress. Then we will go to the annex of the factory of Damascus and Swords, which are the two most characteristic examples of Toledo art. Then we will start to cross on foot from one end to the other, the whole old city. We will stop to visit the vestibule of the church of Saint Thomas where El Greco's masterpiece “The Burial of the Count of Orgaz” is located. Then we will go to visit the most beautiful Cathedral in Western Europe, the Cathedral of Toledo. In addition to the temple, we will also be able to see works by El Greco who lived and worked in Toledo, and not only that. Later free time and return to Madrid. For the evening, to end Madrid beautifully, we recommend a Flamenco show! Overnight stay.

4th Day
Madrid (free day) – Segovia (optional)
Then we have our optional excursion to medieval Segovia, where we will walk through its streets, see the 2.000-year-old Roman Aqueduct, the Plaza Mayor, the Alcazar de Segovia Castle-Palace and have the opportunity to try in local restaurants, dishes such as cochinillo (baby pig) or try the local sweet Ponche Segoviano. Return to Madrid in the afternoon. (A minimum of 15 participants are required for the excursion to take place and the cost per person is 50 €). Overnight stay.

5th Day
Madrid – Athens
After breakfast at the hotel, departure for Madrid Airport and return to Athens.
